My boyfriend just forwarded me this online book that I have begun to read. His Aunt had sent it to him awhile back. Knowing that I really like to read self-help books and books that allow me to better understand human behavior, he thought this would be a book that I would enjoy. He was right! I have just started reading it and really do like it. It opens by quoting Freud's theory of the id, ego and the superego. The id is our primal nature, the superego is the judgement system that society has instilled within us and the ego is our representative to the outside world that struggles to maintain a balance between the other two powerful forces. With all of this going on, how do we truly understand our true "self." The book goes on to explain how we have the constant chatter coming from the voice in our head. That voice is not truly us. Rather it is the listener who is our true self. The voice simply acts as a narrator to help us control what we see in the outside world and make the outside world fit into our controled inner world. I loved learning about things like this and find myself trying to quite that chatter, which is often, as the book puts it, a sense of worry, distraction and neurosis and constantly searching for my true self. I highly recommend this book. You can read this book online at:
