“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts.”
“Live your daily life in a way that you never lose yourself. When you are carried away with your worries, fears, cravings, anger, and desire, you run away from yourself and you lose yourself. The practice is always to go back to oneself.”
“If you look deeply into the palm of your hand, you will see your parents and all generations of your ancestors. All of them are alive in this moment. Each is present in your body. You are the continuation of each of these people.”
Thich Nhat Hahn teaches that we are the forest, for without the forest we cannot breathe. He teaches we are the sun, we are the plants, we are the animals, we are the clouds. Without any of them, we do not exist. Therefore, we must not focus on our simple lives, we are much greater than that. This is his teaching of interbeing. We inter-are with the sun, the clouds, the forest, the ocean, the plants and the animals. Without them, we cannot exist.
This is very powerful for me. I do not focus on this in my everyday life. I want to move away from my ego driven life and be more conscious and mindful of my interbeing with the Earth. Mother Earth is our life. We are Mother Earth. We never leave this Earth. Even the greatest scientists cannot make even the smallest particle of dust disappear. It all goes back to the Earth. We exist in this conscious human state on borrowed time. Then we must go back to Mother Earth.
